Margaret M. (Tessimond) Whiting, 89, longtime Merrimac resident, passed quietly in her sleep at Prescott House in North Andover on Saturday evening, May 6, 2017. She was the wife of the late William H. Whiting, Jr., who died September 7, 2011. Born in Amesbury, November 15, 1927, she was one of ten children of the late Nathaniel and Marie (Gilbert) Tessimond and was a graduate of Amesbury High School. Marge as she was often called, worked many years at Western Electric and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. A devoted wife, loving mother, caring sister, kind Aunt and dear friend to many, she was a longtime member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Merrimac. Marge had a true concern for others, coupled with a lively wit. Among her interests were walking, avid reading, and fashion. Her favorite times were spent with family and friends. She leaves behind her two daughters, Meredith M. Whiting and husband Kevin J. Gmyrek of Haverhill and Wende W. Karchmer of Valrico, Fla.; her sister, Dorothy (Dolly) Tessimond of Amesbury; her sisters-in-law, Natalie (Whiting) Christie and Dorothy (Nelson) Whiting of Merrimac, along with many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. She will be missed by them all. Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 15, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac. A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 27 Church Street, Merrimac at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Merrimac Senior Center, 100 East Main Street, Merrimac, MA 01860, the Prescott House, 140 Prescott Street, North Andover, MA 01845 or Compassus, 790 Turnpike Street, Suite 302, North Andover, MA 01845.
