Edmund F. Dowd, age 87, passed away on May 17, 2017 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 23, 1929 to the late Edmund and Helen (Croke) Dowd. Edmund was a graduate of Chicopee High School and received his Master’s degree from AIC. He was a communicant of St Patrick’s Parish in Chicopee. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran. Edmund was a Chicopee Police Officer for over 38 years and the last eight years as the Police Chief. He leaves his loving wife Jean (Fagnand) Dowd of Chicopee; one daughter, Mary Ellen Hurst of Chicopee, two sons, Edmund F. Dowd Jr. of Chicopee and Daniel Dowd and his wife Debbie of Chicopee, five grandchildren, Patrick Hurst and his wife Kaitlyn, Meghan Murca and her husband Tom, Kerry Bouchard and her husband Marcus and Amanda Dowd and Daniel Dowd and five great grandchildren, Jacob, Ella, Julia, Alexis and Addison and his first cousin Ann Ahearn. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen and Jane Dowd his son in law James Hurst and many members of the O’Brien family. The family would like to give a special thanks to their dads personal assistant Roderick for helping him with such respect and loving care, also Spectrum Health care and there special nurse Ava, the Mercy Oncology Staff especially Cindy for the compassionate and loving care for their dad and also to the nurses at BSMC Wesson unit. A Funeral Service will be held on Sat. May 20, 2017 at 8:30 AM from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee, MA and a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St Patrick Church in Chicopee. Burial will follow at St Patrick Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Fri. May 19, 2017 from 3 to 6 PM at the funeral home.
