She was born in Fitchburg on October 29, 1923, a daughter of the late Frank and Marie L. (Richard) Lortie and was the last survivor of their 11 children.
As a young girl she worked for her father in Lortie’s Market, the family owned grocery store and later worked in a variety of manufacturing positions for companies in the Fitchburg area.
She was a lifelong communicant at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fitchburg.
Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, entertaining, dancing, crafts, playing cards and board games. She was an excellent hostess.
She leaves three sons, Roland R. Vallee and his wife Carol, Richard P. Vallee and his wife Shari and Gerard R. Vallee and his wife Renee all of Fitchburg; two daughters, Linda V. Martin and her husband Norman of Edgewater, FL and Brenda L. Schneider and her husband Joseph of Gardner; a stepson, Joseph Lizotte of Ashburnham and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, May 22 in St. Joseph’s Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 21, from 2-5 PM in the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg.
